Dictionary

This is my grandmother's (Hilda Bursey's) old dictionary. She brought it with her from Old Perlican when she moved to Saint John. It was important to her because she planned on becoming a school teacher, but for whatever reason, that never worked out. She dated this January 1929, so she would have been 18 years old. It was probably her last year living in Old Perlican. The first page is torn, but you can still see that it was given to her by her uncle Jim.

Hilda (Bursey) and Bill Loder Grave

Here is a photo of the gravestone for Hilda (Bursey) and Bill Loder at Fern Hill Cemetery in Saint John, New Brunswick. The grave is very close to the entrance on Westmorland Road. The little apple tree by the headstone has been removed since this photo was taken of Hilda.

England Bursey Theory

Thanks to George Smith for this exciting new info...

George believes (and I agree) that the England Burseys and North American Burseys all share the same distant ancestor of William Bursey born 1703 and his wife Mary Stevens.William was recorded as being a Tailor in the town of Christchurch, Dorset, England in 1746.

Here are photos of George's grandfather, George Bursey and one with his wife Catherine on their wedding day 1921. I have reposted a photo of Wallace Bursey from Old Perlican NF. George and I both think there is a strong resemblance. Post a comment or email me to let me know what you think. There are more photos of Wallace throughout the site.

Thanks George!

Bursey Postcard

This is a photo postcard. I can't really make out the back. Seated in the photo is Julia Poppea (Strickland) Bursey. Not sure about the other two -- I would assume these are Julia's brother and sister, but I don't have much of the Strickland family tree.

Bursey Family Gatherings

Bursey family taken in Belle Isle, NB. Notice the "B" on the window shutters and the Bursey sign to the right of the house. I need to figure out who is who, but for now I know Hilda is seated in the green dress, with daughter Norma on the grass closest to her. Pretty sure that is Nan's (Hilda) dog Toby off to the right. Bill Loder in in the plaid shirt in the back.

Another unmarked photo except the date, 1969. That is Hilda on far left with husband Bill Loder. Please let me know if anyone can help me ID these folks.

Seeking Wedding Photos

Bill and Hilda Loder at their home, celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary with family and friends.

It just occurred to me that I do not have one photo from my Grandparents' wedding. If there is anyone reading this blog out there who happens to have a wedding photo of Hilda Bursey and Bill Loder, from Saint John, NB on April 1933, I would be really, really appreciative if you would email it to me. I am not sure what she wore, or who attended, but I would assume that Stan Bursey was probably there, maybe Vera Bursey or Wally Bursey, etc.

It is very odd that they didn't have any pics of their wedding. They were always taking photos, and I have tons of photos from other people's weddings. It could be that maybe they were damaged over the years. But it would be wonderful to have a photo.

I have this photo with no note on it. I suppose this could have been the day, but I am really just guessing. I was told she wore a blue dress on her wedding day.

Middle is John Bursey. Others are unknown, but could possibly be his brothers Elisha, William James or Reuben. If anyone knows, please let me know.

John Bursey with daughter Mary (front), his sister Mary (back left), mother Matilda (nee Pike), I think that may be John's daughter Vera and her husband in the back, John's sons on the right, Stan in the suspenders and Wally in the front.

Photo says Max Cramm (standing), Cam Cramm , Frank Cramm (front right), Jimmy (front left). Not sure who Max and Jimmy are. I do see a reference that Fanny and Cam got married at Maxwell Camm's house when she was 20.

UPDATE: I have been told Max is Cam's brother and Jim is Max's son.

Marge Bursey

Photo says Marge Bursey 1947 Saint John, NB. I am not sure if this is Marjorie Ella Bursey (married name Spence), Reuben's daughter. Reuben married Fanny Barrett. He was son of William James Bursey and Matilda Pike, and John Bursey's brother. If anyone has any information, please let me know.
